I was particularly interested in the subtle way the model’s build suggested both strength and vulnerability simultaneously, so took great care in defining the muscles of her back and very slender arms. I borrowed the cobalt blue from the cushion to use in her mass of gathered hair and added the reflections in the polished floorboards to emphasise the light.
