Working in watercolour there are always accidents (some happy, some not) and in this drawing the curvy long S-shaped shadow on the cushion to her right is echoed by the curve of her calf on her left leg and this sets off a whole series of rippling curves in the lower part of the drawing. Above these, in contrast, her head in held very still emphasising her clear steady gaze.
