Situated in the Ogwen valley, Tryfan is one of the most famous and easily recognisable peaks in Britain with its sharp pointed ridge and rugged crags. It is just over 900 meters high and as it is easily accessed from the A5 it is a favourite place for intrepid walkers, though I have to say I have never made it to the top myself. In the painting I have tried to give a sense of scale to the mountain by emphasising the small cottages in the middle distance, with the broken light in the sky reflected in the stream to add to the dramatic lighting.
