What caught my eye and provided the inspiration for this painting was the lovely orange colour of the surfboard set against the blue of the sea. I wanted to generate a feeling of anticipation in the picture and chose to place the board and its reflection to form an arrow that points clearly towards the waves. The flag acts as a block to halt all the diagonals that lead to the right.
