The longer I painted this view the more intrigued I became by the patterns made by the strata in the rocks with their alternating warm and cool colours running off into the distance. In the end it took me three visits to complete the painting, adding the tiny figures on the last day to guide the viewer into the scene and suggest the liveliness of summer.
