Making a painting has something in common with making a cake. There are ingredients which go to make a painting just as there are ingredients for a cake. In the end it is all about balance, just enough of this, and not too much of that, if you get things wrong with a watercolour often the only remedy is to start again. In this painting I needed just a smidgen of activity to add to the landscape and the big blue paddle board that needed two people to carry it simply walked into the painting.
